The Power of Hope

Hope - inscription on the heart shaped boxWe are coming to the end of this very difficult year, it’s important to look forward to the new year coming up, with hope for improved conditions.

Hope turns out to be a powerful force for building psychological resilience. In fact, hope has been shown to counteract the negative effects of depression, to reduce mood disturbances, and low levels of hope are related to higher levels of depression.

Basically, hope and mental health are linked together. They vary together.

Importantly, choosing to adopt an attitude of hope is not about overlooking negative aspects in our lives, or acting like they are not there. Rather, it’s about acknowledging the challenges while still focusing on any positive aspects whenever possible.

As we close out the last few months of this difficult time, we look forward to the new year with the hope that it will be better, a vaccine will be developed, and we can begin to return to a sense of normalcy
