Nutrition Month is 50 Shades of Crazy

OMG what EVER you do, don’t eat the … carbs!! They’re making you fat and emotional with saggy skin and premature aging!!

Look. Thin healthy people eat carbs. Every day. The Japanese are famously thin and heart healthy and eat rice as an absolute staple of their diet.

The Mediterranean diet has baguettes and focaccia and couscous and pasta … every day in every way.

When I lived in Norway, we at potatoes every day. It was kind of a joke with me and my exchange student brothers … so then, what are we having with potatoes tonight!?

In healthy cultures, they do eat carbs, but they gets a bucket o’bread, pasta by the metric tonne, or puts potatoes piles on their salad (yeah, I’m talking to you Pittsburgh!).

Once you get them into human-sized portions, the next key is to have them in combination with natural fats, fiber, or protein. When you do that, your body slows the rate of stomach emptying, nutrient absorption, and so you’re less likely to get insulin overproduction which leads to a raft load of bad outcomes for you.
