Are Statins Worse For You Than A Mediterranean Lifestyle?

Amalfi%2BCoast%2Bw%2BTable.jpgThis report suggests that the Mediterranean lifestyle is better for you than Statins.

According to Professor Giovanni de Gaetano, head of the Department of Epidemiology and Prevention at the IRCCS Neuromed Institute in Italy, “We found that among those with a higher adherence to the Mediterranean diet, death from any cause was reduced by 37 per cent in comparison to those who poorly adhered to this dietary regime.”

The benefit from Statins? ~18%

Yes, these results are not directly comparable. Agreed the scientific community needs to do more work to clarify the conclusions. Got it.

But what these results suggest is that if you adhere to a Mediterranean Lifestyle, your risk of death from any cause is reduced by twice as much as if you were taking Statins.

And the nice thing about the Mediterranean Lifestyle is that it doesn’t harm your liver, and you never hear that little voice at the end of a commercial telling you how this may cause injury, sickness, death, vomiting, bad breath, or some other dread disease.

And how amazing would it be if your doctor looked at you and told you to live a healthier lifestyle, in stead of prescribing medications for everything? We just have to figure out how to get them to make money from prescribing effective common sense solutions!
