Gym culture not working out for the French | Reuters

The whole idea of forced exercise is unusual, and the French do NOT see this as a lifestyle choice.
Playing tennis because you enjoy it? That’s a lifestyle.
Kicking a soccer ball about, or cycling? Those are lifestyles.
But the “forced march” approach of the gym, bust-a-gut mentality isn’t practiced by any healthy culture.
Does this mean you SHOULDN’T go to the gym? Of course not. But pound out those miles on the treadmill only if you love it. If it calls to you. If it pulls you forward.
Otherwise, find what you love to do, whether that’s biking or walking or bowling or basketball or gardening or dancing … and do that. Aim toward a sustainable goal, NOT a short term quick fix.
