Reflect on this this, and make sure the items you identify are NOT what brings joy and purpose to others in your life. Explore your interests, values, and passions. Reflect on activities or experiences that create those emotions, leaving you fulfilled and energized.

There are times when the moments just seem to fly by, and you lose track of the world around you. Those are the activities or hobbies that are linked into your inner joy and purpose.

Once you’ve put your finger on the 2 or 3 top items, carve out time for those activities through your week.

Practice Self-Compassion and Self-Care

Treat yourself with kindness, understanding, and care. Yes, you along with every other human have imperfections and have made mistakes, so consider your own trip-ups without negative judgments attached.

Certain activities can help; those that promote physical and emotional well-being, like getting enough sleep, eating nutritious food, and regular activity that you enjoy. And as you add these activities, be sure to set realistic goals, and prioritize your needs, boundaries, and values. It’s okay to take breaks when you need them and seek support from loved ones or mental health professionals when necessary.

People Need People

You can encourage those positive relationships as well. Communicate openly, listen actively, and show empathy and understanding. Feel free to express gratitude and regularly. Finally, be willing to compromise, forgive, and maintain healthy boundaries.

Practice Your Ability to Turn Away from Troubling Thoughts

To focus on the present, practice mindfulness by engaging your senses. Focus on the sight of something you find beautiful, the aroma of your morning coffee, or the sound of laughter. Whatever it is for you, attend to those thoughts and feelings, and do so without judgment.

This gets easier with practice, so limit distractions and focus on the task at hand.

Seeking a mental health counselor can provide support and guidance to help you identify and address those underlying issues, and provide coping strategies, tools, and resources to really help. A counselor can also offer a safe, non-judgmental space to process difficult emotions and experiences, leading to greater self-awareness, personal growth, and an improved overall quality of life.
