A Spiced Plum Chutney For Every Every Thing

spiced plum chutneyNo, I get it. Plums are amazing, but there are only so many one person can eat!

But this recipe for spiced plums will make you weep. You’re going to want this on your savory meats, like pork or lamb, as the “J” to your “PB&”, and on your morning yogurt/granola combo!

It’s got a delicious blend of flavors from the plums, spices, and citrus notes, making it a perfect go-with to so so many dishes!

You’ll Need:

2-2.5 lbs plums

4 shallots

3 fresh bay leaves

1 cinnamon stick

5 cloves

1/2 teaspoon ground allspice

1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

400 g brown sugar

1 orange

3/4 cup, cider vinegar

What You Do:

Drizzle vegetable oil in a large pan over low heat. Peel and slice the shallots, then cook until softened and golden brown.

Remove the seed from the plums, then give them a rough chop. Add bay leaves and spices to the pan, heat for 1 minute, then stir in the plums.

Next, add the sugar and finely grate orange zest. Squeeze the orange juice into the pan with the cider vinegar.

Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer slowly until most of the water has evaporated, and the chutney is reduced and thick, stirring occasionally.

Spoon the chutney into sterilized jars and seal immediately. Allow to cool and store in a cupboard for a few weeks before eating.
