Optimism? Really?

I know, I know. I’m a glass half-full kinda guy. Actually mine’s more pathological than that, weighing in at around 2/3 full actually, lol.

But tell me where I’m wrong here? I think ’22 is going to be amazing, and not because of some blind polyanna rose-colored kum-bay-ya mentality (what, growing up in Alabama, we call ‘happy horsesh*t’). But because many agencies, such as CDC and Harvard, now say that Covid will move from “Pandemic” to “Endemic”.

What does that even mean?

It means that Covid will definitely still be among us, but we as a population will have enough natural + vaccinated immunity that it can be managed more like the annual flu. In fact, CDC has stated that

As COVID-19 becomes endemic and the primary exposure is in childhood, SARS-CoV-2 [the Covid virus] may be no more virulent that the common cold.

When that happens, bogged down supply lines clear, travel weirdness eases up, and business can finally normalize again. That will be so great for work, for business, and for our personal lives!

So, for all you glass half-empty peeps out there, even you have to admit that this is some serious silver lining material to work with!

Just some data for context:

  • The global pandemic of 1918 lasted 3 years,
  • the 1957 pandemic lasted 2 years,
  • as did the 1968 pandemic.
  • By March we’ll be heading into our 3rd year and, even though the Omicron version of Covid is a serious super spreader, it seems to be less deadly because of the combination of natural + vaccinated immunity.

When you are seriously out of things to do in your day, here are some references for your reading pleasure.
