{"id":403,"date":"2008-09-21T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2008-09-21T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.willclower.com\/blog\/2008\/09\/21\/basic-pickle-brine-recipe\/"},"modified":"2017-02-02T12:47:20","modified_gmt":"2017-02-02T17:47:20","slug":"basic-pickle-brine-recipe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mymedwellness.com\/blog\/?p=403","title":{"rendered":"Basic Pickle Brine Recipe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>You can adjust this recipe to make larger or smaller quantities; just be sure to keep the proportions of salt to vinegar to water the same.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>You&#8217;ll Need:<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>1 3\/4 cups pickling salt (not iodized)<\/li>\n<li>2 1\/2 gallons water<\/li>\n<li>2 1\/2 cups vinegar<\/li>\n<li>1\/2-3\/4 cup Pickling Spice Mix (see recipe below)<\/li>\n<li>2-3 bunches whole dill heads or 1 cup dried dill weed (optional for noncucumber pickles)<\/li>\n<li>Garlic cloves to taste (up to 1 head, peeled and separated)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><strong>Directions:<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>Mix the salt into the water until it is completely dissolved (the water will start out cloudy, then grow clear).<\/div>\n<div>Add the vinegar and the cheesecloth bag containing the spices and, if you&#8217;re pickling cucumbers, add the dill.<\/div>\n<div>You may use our Pickling Spice Mix or one from the grocery store.<\/div>\n<div>Include garlic if you wish.<\/div>\n<div>Makes enough brine for about 20 pounds (about 1\/2 bushel) of vegetables.<\/div>\n<div><strong>Pickling Spice Mix<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>Use this recipe as a point of departure for your own favorite mix.<\/div>\n<div>You can add this mix loose to a batch of fresh pickles.<\/div>\n<div>For fermenting, use twine to tie the mixture up in a cheesecloth square as a spice bag; remove when you can pickles.
