After n<\/span>ine years of this, scientists took brain scans to measure their brain volume. After four more years, they tested to see if anyone in the study had cognitive impairment or dementia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium; \"><span><span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; line-height: 1.6; \"><span style=\"font-size: medium; \"><span>So. In this 13 year study, they found that people who walked only 6 &#8211; 9 miles an entire week cut their risk of developing memory problems in half!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"line-height: 22px; \"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span>Plus, these researchers showed that those who walked at least 6 miles per WEEK had <i><b>less age-related brain shrinkage<\/b><\/i> than people who walked less.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial; font-size: medium; line-height: 25px; \"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"line-height: 22px; \"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial; font-size: medium; line-height: 25px; \">&#8220;<i>Brain size shrinks in late adulthood, which can cause memory problems. Our results should encourage well-designed trials &#8230;<\/i>,&#8221; said Kirk Erickson of the University of Pittsburgh, whose study appears in the journal Neurology.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial; font-size: medium; line-height: 25px; \"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><span style=\"line-height: 25px; font-size: medium;\">Yes, yes, I&#8217;m glad it will encourage more research &#8230; but it should also encourage you to get moving!
