And, if someone said to you that &#8220;food additives can impact ADHD&#8221;, would you be surprised? Really?&nbsp;<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/><\/span><br \/><span style=\"line-height: 18px;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; font-weight: inherit; font: normal normal normal 14px\/19px arial; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 19px; padding-left: 186px; padding-right: 24px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-style: inherit;\">Well, a recent study published in <\/span><i>The Lancet<\/i><span style=\"font-style: inherit;\"> found that a mixture of four artificial food colors plus the preservative sodium benzoate aggravated hyperactivity in two groups of children without ADHD &#8212; 3-year-olds and 8- to 9-year-olds.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; font-weight: inherit; font: normal normal normal 14px\/19px arial; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 19px; padding-left: 186px; padding-right: 24px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">Sounds straightforward, right?&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; font-weight: inherit; font: normal normal normal 14px\/19px arial; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 19px; padding-left: 186px; padding-right: 24px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">But the problem is that a 2nd additive-cocktail didn&#8217;t have as great an effect on the 8- to 9-year-olds. The impact on behavior was still there, just not as severe.&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; font-weight: inherit; font: normal normal normal 14px\/19px arial; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 19px; padding-left: 186px; padding-right: 24px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-style: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">So the data are as mixed up and mixed together as the synthetic dyes in Fruit Loops Cereal. According to&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small; font-style: inherit;\">Michael F. Jacobson, Ph.D., executive director of the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), which has petitioned the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ban all food dyes because of hyperactivity concerns,&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-style: inherit;\">&#8220;<\/span><i>There&#8217;s no way to know at this point which is the problem dye. Is only one of them a problem? All of them a problem?<\/i><span style=\"font-style: inherit;\">&#8220;<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">These data from this study just emphasize that (from my point of view and for my children) the safest course for us is to avoid all synthetics altogether. Just eat real food, and eat it in control.
