Chair of the Harvard School of Public Health\u2019s nutrition department Dr. Walter Willett is emphatic:&nbsp;<\/span><br \/><i style=\"outline-color: initial; outline-style: none; outline-width: initial; position: static;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/><\/span><\/i><br \/><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><\/span><i style=\"outline-color: initial; outline-style: none; outline-width: initial; position: static;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cIf anything, the literature shows a slight advantage of the high fat diet,\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">he said.<i style=\"outline-color: initial; outline-style: none; outline-width: initial; position: static;\">\u201cThe focus on fat in dietary guidelines has been a massive distraction\u2026We should remove total fat from nutrition facts panels on the back of packs.\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: none; outline-width: initial; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; position: static;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: none; outline-width: initial; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; position: static;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">He added that while the pervasive dietary guidance given to consumers has been to eat fats sparingly, to load up on starch and eat non-fat products,&nbsp;<i style=\"outline-color: initial; outline-style: none; outline-width: initial; position: static;\">\u201cthe food industry quickly realized sugar was cheaper than fat and laughed all the way to the bank.\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">When America was healthy and thinner than we are now (lets say, 1958 when our obesity rate hovered at 12%), the percent of fat in our diets was closer to 37%. Certainly not the 30% advised by a raft of health experts.&nbsp;<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Healthy cultures eat healthy fats. When we were healthy, we ate healthy fats as well.
