And they are also packed with vitamin E.<span><span style=\"color: black;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Both foods may help keep the heart and brain healthy and functioning properly. Other good choices are almonds and hazelnuts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere has been some very good research that diets that are high in healthy fats, low in saturated fat and trans fats, and rich in whole grains, green leafy vegetables, and nuts are good for the brain and the heart,\u201d says Maria C. Carrillo, PhD, senior director of medical and scientific relations at the Chicago-based Alzheimer\u2019s Association.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">Red wine<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"clear: left; font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt;\"><br clear=\"all\" style=\"mso-special-character: line-break; page-break-before: always;\" \/> <\/span>  <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">Whole grains<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"clear: left; float: left; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img data-opt-id=1554435773  data-opt-src=\"https:\/\/mlcmmqmgggev.i.optimole.com\/w:122\/h:122\/q:mauto\/f:best\/dpr:2\/https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/kqube.com\/en\/images\/stories\/English\/Health\/Nov\/whole-grain-memory-122x122.jpg\"  data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"whole-grain-memory-122x122\" height=\"200\" src=\"data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20viewBox%3D%220%200%20122%20122%22%20width%3D%22122%22%20height%3D%22122%22%20xmlns%3D%22http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg%22%3E%3Crect%20width%3D%22122%22%20height%3D%22122%22%20fill%3D%22transparent%22%2F%3E%3C%2Fsvg%3E?resize=200%2C200\" width=\"200\" \/><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">Fiber-rich whole grains are an integral part of the Mediterranean diet, which is also loaded with fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, olive oil, and wine.<\/p>\n<p>Research out of Columbia University Medical Center in New York City shows that this diet may be linked to lower risk of the mild cognitive impairment that can progress to Alzheimer\u2019s disease.<span><span style=\"color: black;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t eat foods or nutrients in isolation, we eat in combination with other foods so there is value in dietary patterns,\u201d says Nikolaos Scarmeas, MD, an associate professor of neurology at Columbia University, who conducted the studies.<\/p>\n<p>This type of diet may reduce inflammation, oxidative stress, and other vascular risk factors such as high blood pressure\u2014all of which may have a role in increasing risk for brain and heart diseases.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\"><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">Exercise<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"clear: left;
