Plotnikoff, who directs the Institute for Health and Healing at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.<\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6;\">What&#8217;s more, <\/span><i style=\"line-height: 1.6;\"><b>20 percent of the women using keishi-bukuryo-gan reported diarrhea<\/b><\/i><span style=\"line-height: 1.6;\"> as a side effect. Now THAT&#8217;s a picture you never see in the &#8220;health food&#8221; section of your grocery store. Wouldn&#8217;t that be great? Instead of sitting on the sacred stone table of some Asian&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 25px;\">Monastery, the people on this supplement bottle would be shown &#8230; hmm, not sure how effective that marketing message would be.<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.6;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;\"><span style=\"line-height: 25px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><b>To Be Fair<\/b>&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;\"><span style=\"line-height: 25px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">It may be that this herb was not given within the context of traditional Japanese medicine, which is a&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">system known as Kampo, which considers each individual patient&#8217;s &#8220;constitution.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Based on that system, the researchers note, keishi-bukuryo-gan is best for women who normally tend to feel cold (when they&#8217;re not having hot flashes or night sweats), and are deemed to have stagnant qi (pronounced &#8220;chee&#8221;). Qi is a concept in traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine that refers to the flow of energy through the body.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"line-height: 1.6; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">But supplement makers are NOT trying to sell this herb within the context of traditional Japanese medicine.
