Of course not.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Although &#8230;. in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1ORjhga\" target=\"_blank\">THIS STUDY<\/a>\u00a0the guys at the Harvard School of Public Health assessed the dietary patterns of over 124,000 men and women for up to 24 years.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">They wanted to know A) what they were eating, and B) if those who were better able to control their weight tended to eat certain things more than others.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><b>What they found? \u00a0<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">People who ate more antioxidant flavonoids were more likely to maintain their weight over the long haul.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.willclower.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/chart01.gif?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-4617\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.willclower.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/chart01-150x150.gif?resize=150%2C150&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"chart01\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">After controlling for every lifestyle variable on planet Earth, this class of molecule was most associated with keeping your weight in check. Magic!!<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">The image on the left is from the paper. Check out the top of the chart, which shows how much of the magic flavonoid molecules they were eating, and where they came from.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><b>Two Points\u00a0<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><u>First of all,<\/u> there are no magic molecules, and this study is only a correlation. So it doesn&#8217;t prove anything. That said, it is strongly suggestive, especially given the quality of the study and the huge number of people (greater than 124k).<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Moreover, it&#8217;s not hard to imagine that the foods eaten can contribute to weight control. If you review them, they&#8217;re basically a list of all the usual suspects: fruits, veg, tea, red wine. Heck, even beer is included.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><u>But secondly<\/u>, where&#8217;s my dark chocolate? Or even just cocoa? Did they not count it? Why are they excluding the food with the highest concentration of antioxidant flavonoids of them all??<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Check this chart:\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><b>Food \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Catechin flavonoids (mg\/100g) &#8230; Epicatechin flavonoids (mg\/100g)<\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Dark Chocolate \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a012.0 &#8230; 41.5<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Red Table Wine \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a07.0 &#8230; \u00a03.3<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Brewed Black Tea \u00a0 1.5 &#8230; \u00a02.1<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Apples \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 0.9 &#8230; \u00a06.1<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><u>Why the exclusion?<\/u><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">I&#8217;m not sure why they did not allow dark chocolate and cocoa into their little club of healthy flavonoid foods. It may be that the idea that these two can be associated with weight loss is just too much to accept right now.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">In any case, until this all gets cleared up (in the year 2094), I think it&#8217;s a safe bet that consuming food high in flavonoid antioxidants is going to be great for you, and may even help you control your weight!!
