To show you what it&#8217;s all about, below is a video of the steps for throwing it together.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2 class=\"mb-2 mt-6 text-lg first:mt-3\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">You&#8217;ll Need:<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul class=\"marker:text-textOff list-disc pl-8\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Puff Pastry<\/strong>: 2 sheets (thawed if frozen)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Smoked Salmon<\/strong>: ~250g, but more for nibbling never hurt anyone\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Cream Cheese<\/strong>: ~100g, depending on how thickly it is spread\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Dill<\/strong>: Optional if you like dill, 1 tsp (fresh or dried)<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Capers, a sprinkle to taste<\/li>\n<li>Sprinkle of\u00a0 chopped red onions<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Egg<\/strong>: 1 (for egg wash)<\/span><\/li>\n<li>A splash of milk to thin the egg<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"735\" height=\"414\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GaGzQ1U4qXg?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"mb-2 mt-6 text-lg first:mt-3\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">What You&#8217;ll Do<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Shape the Tree<\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Unroll the first sheet of puff pastry on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Using a knife, cut the pastry into a triangular shape resembling a tree.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Create the inner layer:<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Spread a thin layer of the cream cheese on the bottom layer of puff pastry<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Place the smoked salmon in a single layer over the cream cheese<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">sprinkle over the red onion and also dill (if using) and the capers. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Layer the Pastry<\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Lay out the second sheet of puff pastry and place it over the filled triangle.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Press down gently around the edges to seal. Cut out the tree shape, and remove excess pastry.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Create Branches<\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Make horizonal cuts starting from the width of the &#8220;trunk&#8221; you made at the bottom, and extending to the left and right. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Make these horizontal cuts evenly spaced from the top of the tree down toward the trunk, ~2 inches apart.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Egg Wash<\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Beat the egg with milk and brush it over the surface of the pastry. This will give it a golden color when baked.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>sprinkle sesame seeds over the tree<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Bake<\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Preheat your oven to 200\u00b0C (400\u00b0F).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Bake for approximately 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up. Check halfway through to ensure it doesn\u2019t brown too quickly.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Serve<\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
