Of course, none of her recipes were written down, they all lived in her heart and mind. But I will share this with you here because, honestly, this one needs to be written down!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">ps &#8230; since writing this down, I&#8217;ve come to realize that this recipe was popularized in the movie Steel Magnolias, but this is indeed what my mom did for us about a thousand years ago, down in Alabama.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">You&#8217;ll Need:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">1\/2 stick (4 tablespoons) butter<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">1 cup granulated sugar<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">1 cup self-rising flour (when she taught me how to make this, I used regular flour but just added 2 tsp baking powder, 1\/2 tsp salt, and a pinch of baking soda)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">1 cup milk<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">2 cups fresh peaches (peeled and sliced &#8230; do not use the sweetened canned peaches)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">What You&#8217;ll Do:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Preheat your oven to 350\u00b0F (175\u00b0C).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Melt the butter, and you&#8217;ll do this by placing it in a square baking dish (8-9 inches), then set it into the oven for about 5 minutes.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Mix the flour and sugar together into a large mixing bowl, then add in the milk and mix until just smooth.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Into the baking dish with the melted butter, pour in the batter &#8212; don&#8217;t bother stirring. Trust me, it all works out!<\/li>\n<li>Next add the peaches over the top &#8212; still, no stirring!<\/li>\n<li>You&#8217;re done, but mom always sprinkled either a bit of cinnamon or nutmeg over the top.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Bake for 45 minutes, or until the edges get crispy, golden, and irresistible! You&#8217;ll also notice that the batter rises up all around the peaches.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">It&#8217;s best served warm with a dollop of vanilla bean ice cream on top.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Growing up, my mom prepared the day-in day-out meals, while dad did the fancy stuff on the weekends.
