<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">But for all the subtle sweet spiciness of this dish, it\u2019s actually pretty simple to throw together.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Basically: <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Make the marinade<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Rub it all over the bird<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Let it sit over night to think about itself<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Singe it up on the barbie!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>You\u2019ll Need:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><u>For the Marinade<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">1 medium onion, chopped<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">3 medium scallions, chopped<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">1 Scotch bonnet pepper, finely chopped<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">2 garlic cloves, minced<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">1 Tbsp five-spice powder<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">1 tsp allspice,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">1 Tbsp coarsely ground black pepper<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">1 tsp dried thyme, crumbled<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">1 tsp nutmeg<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">1 tsp salt<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">1\/2 cup soy sauce<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">1 Tbsp vegetable oil<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><u>For the Chicken<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">4\u00a0chicken breasts; 4 leg-thighs<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>What You\u2019ll Do:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">First of all, start the night before (or if you have an evening picnic, at least get this part started first thing, so it has time to incorporate these flavors!)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Put all but the last 2 marinade ingredients into a food processor (or if using an immersion blender, into its cup).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Process this into a paste and, with the machine still on, drizzle in the soy sauce and the oil.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Put the chicken into a large sealable zip loc bag. Add the marinade, and squidge all around until completely covered.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Set this into the refrigerator over night. About two hours before you want to eat, pull out the chicken and allow it to come back to room temp.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">When you\u2019re ready, light the grill and bring it up over a medium-high flame. Get your tongs and set the chicken on the grill, turning frequently enough to prevent over burning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">You\u2019ll need 30+ minutes to cook these through (remember the leg-thighs are bone-in, so they\u2019ll take a bit longer), so take your time when charring the skin because you can overdo that if you hit it too hard, too soon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Serve this right away, and enjoy!<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you\u2019ve never made a Caribbean style jerk chicken, but have only seen it, smelled the aroma, or had some in a restaurant, this dish can seem magical!
