The <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/10.1177\/1757913917740391\">consensus is growing<\/a> that there are definitely <span style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial;\">links between music and wellbeing. Just how it helps, and how much, is what this particular piece of research is about.<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div id=\"Purch_Y_C_0_1_clone_1\" class=\"priad Purch_Y_C_0_1\">\n<div id=\"bordeaux-static-slot-4\" class=\"bordeaux-slot bordeaux-filled-slot\" data-feat-ref=\"bordeaux-feat-id-205\">\n<div id=\"skip-to-div-bordeaux-static-slot-4\" class=\"sr-only\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The results of these 26 studies were compared to see how listening to music improved mental wellbeing (through the &#8220;Quality of Life&#8221; survey), compared to other non-drug solutions like exercise. According to the study authors, the mental health boost from music is within the same range as physical exercise.<\/p>\n<p>As you might expect, every person responded differently to the music therapy, some getting more benefit than others. But this is the point of the research, to start asking these more detailed questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>what kind of music therapy works<\/li>\n<li>how do we customize it, per person<\/li>\n<li>what range of benefits can we achieve<\/li>\n<li>how long can the benefits last<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While we&#8217;re waiting on research science to sort itself out, remember that jammin&#8217; to the tunes you love turns out to be as good for you heart as it is for your mind.<\/p>\n<p>The research has been published in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jamanetwork.com\/journals\/jamanetworkopen\/fullarticle\/2790186\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>JAMA Network Open<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Great research science on the factors that can improve mental health and our measures of &#8220;quality of life&#8221;.
