The pandemic brought a dramatic spike in incidents and awareness of mental wellbeing. The number of workers reporting at least one mental health symptom has increased a dramatic 17 percent in only two years. The time to address this problem is now, and employers are being called to be part of the solution.<\/p>\n<p>Will Clower, CEO and founder of MedWell urges us to <em>\u201cActively wrap mental and behavioral health programs into the wellbeing plan. The Surgeon General emphasized the critical state we face, and the need to create workplace cultures that allow employees not only to survive, but to thrive. MedWell wholeheartedly endorses the Surgeon General\u2019s call to action within the principles of this framework.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The urgency could not be greater both for workers and workplaces. Survey data show that a full 84% of respondents<sup>2<\/sup> reported at least one workplace factor that negatively impacted their mental health. Another 81% of respondents<sup>3<\/sup> felt strongly enough to indicate that they will look for workplaces that support mental health in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Per the Surgeon General,\u00a0<em>\u201cWith more than 160 million people participating in the United States workforce and with the average full-time worker in the United States spending about half of their waking life at work, workplaces play a significant role in shaping our mental and physical well-being. Employers have a unique opportunity not only to invest in the mental health and well-being of their workforce but also to strengthen their organizations\u2019 success by doing so.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Corporate leadership must respond to this \u201cunique opportunity\u201d by investing in the mental health of their employees.
